Sweat With Your Pet!

Here at Red Leaf, our dogs are the centers of our lives. Not only are they our work-from-home companions, but they’re also the cutest ambassadors of all time! As July comes to a close and temperatures begin to cool off, long fall walks and crisp autumn air are right around the corner. Today on the blog we’re exploring ways you can get outside and work out with your pet, both in our home base of greater Indianapolis, Indiana, and at home. Keep reading for ideas on how you can change up you and your pup’s routine!

Shape’s Puppy Love Workout

Anytime I work out at home, my dog is instantly curious and wants to be involved. At least, that’s what I tell myself- in reality, she might just be concerned about how hard I’m breathing. This workout by Shape is a great way to combine playtime with your workout, killing two birds with one stone! Try out moves like the “Hide and Seek Squat,” “Puppy Pop Up Jacks,” and “Pup Pushup” for a fun workout with your pet.

Game, Set, Match

You throw tennis balls for your dog to fetch almost every day. Why not just play tennis? A great way to work out with your pet is to practice volley drills at home against an outside wall and let your pup chase the ball back and forth until they’re pooped.

Doggie Yoga: Pups, Pints, and Yoga Series at Metazoa Brewing Co.

Beer, puppies, and yoga. Need I say more? While you may not be able to bring your own pup to this class, this is the perfect opportunity to look for an addition to the family! This year Metazoa Brewing Co. has combined forces with local Indianapolis dog rescue Helping Paws Indy for their Doggie Yoga Class series. Classes are 60 minutes long and include yoga instruction with puppies, a pint of beer, and plenty of time with Helping Paws’ adoptable pups. Tickets are $20 and are still available for classes in August, October, and December.

A Day on the Water

For older, more relaxed dogs, stand up paddleboarding or canoeing can be a fun change of scenery and a great workout for owners. Stand up paddleboards and canoes can often be rented at state parks and marinas for an hourly rate, and can be rented in Indianapolis at Eagle Creek Park and in Fishers at Saxony Lake.

Dog-Friendly Night on the Town

Visit Indy has compiled an awesome list of dog-friendly restaurants, stores, and parks scattered throughout Indianapolis and the surrounding suburbs. One great way to work out with your pet in Indianapolis is to run, walk, or bike down the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple. Make a night of it by stopping by some of my favorite dog-friendly Broad Ripple spots: Fire by the Monon for dinner, BRICS ice cream for dessert, and Three Dogs Bakery for an extra-special treat for your pet!
